I want my students involvement to be at 100% for every thing they learn! I use technology, a flipped classroom model and project based learning to connect the learning objectives in meaningful ways. I want my students to have a real life application and to take away something that they won't just remember for a short while, but rather have a skill that they can build on as they progress in life.
I feel that to build a relationship with my students and to have a mutual respect we must be in this together. I take a collaborative approach to creating our class agreement that uses continuous improvement tools and methods.

I view my students as individuals that are all on their own learning paths. I feel learning should be tailored to the individual student. In my classroom I have multiple ways for students to track their progress on their learning objectives, and to supplement their own learning.
I have teacher created videos and links to practice problems available for any student that needs extra help in a particular area. I also have multiple ways for students to be enriched including, "enrichment folders" that extend the skill to a real life application, higher learning video links, or allowing my students to create their own blogs/videos to teach someone else.
I act as a facilitator in my classroom. I am there for support to work with one on one individuals and to help students find ownership of their own learning. Students need to be accountable for their own learning goals, so at the beginning of every year we set realistic expectations and goals. We clearly outline these in a student/parent/teacher contract and at the end of the year the students lead a parent/teacher conference explaining how far they have come!
Students all have different ways of learning and I try to make sure to incorporate all styles of learning with everything I teach. Here is an example of a kin-esthetic way to learn equivalent fractions with Hopscotch.
I use technology such as Google Classroom to facilitate online learning where students can communicate in a community environment that is safe and easily accessible. This allows me to help my students engage in learning at different levels and times. I can upload videos, quizzes, and assignments to keep my students up to date. I also use Google sites to create digital learning portfolios for students to track data and leadership.
I also use a flexible learning environment to promote student ownership and collaboration. This means TRUE flexibility - my students sit in my classroom where they are most successful and manipulate the furniture to best suit the needs of the task at hand. I wrote a grant for flexible furniture at Grandview Hills Elementary and received the honor of most innovative grant. Here are a few pictures of the environment I have set up for my students using grant funded furniture and my own.

My goal is to provide students with a classroom that is safe, secure and a place where they feel free to collaborate and grow individually and together! I treat my students with love and respect, but also hold firm and high expectations. Every year I have taught I have been surprised over and over again on how much my students teach ME! I learn and grow every day from precious fourth graders that remind me how much fun learning is!
